Accent Lighting
This type of light is designed much like a spot light you would find on a stage but, of course, it is on a more personal scale.  These lights are used for direct highlighting, drawing attention to points of interest.  These are used under kitchen cabinets, hanging over wall paintings or inset in the ceiling to accentuate the beauty of a fireplace mantel for example.

The one cautionary note we must mention is if you are using Accent lighting to highlight your favorite painting, be sure to use a bulb that will not fade or damage the paint colors.  Carefully placed candles can also create wonderful task lighting effects.

"Not Now Honey - I'm Not In The Mood"

Before becoming overly concerned about your "sexual attraction" try changing the light!  That's right lighting greatly effects mood.  What makes a room romantic?  Sure, it's a combination of music and wine, but it's also in the light!

Think focused light when considering Task Lighting.  The direction of that light is determined by the shape and density of the shade.  Be sure to keep in mind the weight and balance of the room when placing your lamps.

Task Lighting
Once you have provided your
Ambient light, the next source
of light to introduce into the room is known as Task Lighting.  The objective here is to bring more finely tuned light into areas where specific activities are being enjoyed.  For example, a reading lightnext to a couch.  The main
objective is to not have to strain to see the details of what you are viewing.
