Keeping indoor plants healthy first of all  requires that they be given the appropriate amount of sunlight. Some plants, like ferns, will do well if they get only a minimum amount of sunlight while others will quickly die if they are not in partial to full sun every day.

The hours of sunlight a particular room will receive must be considered when choosing plants for the space. Those that need a lot of sun must be placed in rooms that get full sunlight for several hours during the day.

Keeping indoor plants healthy also requires regular watering. Homeowners should include the watering of their indoor plants in their weekly schedule of chores so that the plants never go thirsty.

If you are a pet owner, you will also need to pay attention to your pet's behavior when introducing a new plant into a room. Pets may chew the leaves or use the pot as a litter box.
