How to Choose Office Furniture

When choosing office furniture, the first thing you

must do is set a sensible budget and then stick to it.

Do lots of research into prices and find out if there are any

special deals available. Look for the best quality furniture

within your price range and see what is on offer and if

there are any discounts for buying a complete set, i.e.

a desk, cabinet, cupboard and bookcase.

Now that you have a budget and have looked at some

prices, you need to measure your office and see how

much space you have to accommodate your furniture.

You will need to decide upon the arrangement of your office and this depends upon the size and shape of the room. L shape works well in a smaller room and U shape is good in a larger room, so spend some time drawing a plan so that you can make an informed choice as to what would work best for you.

Do not make the mistake of over furnishing your office or it will look cramped and uncomfortable. Your next task is to look at what pieces of furniture you actually need. Obviously if your work is computer orientated, then you will need a good computer desk or workstation. Make sure it is well built and that there is plenty of room on it for all the accessories you will require.

Choose a height that is suitable for you, you can adjust your chair of course, but the desk needs to be at the correct height or your arms and legs will not be in the right place and this will lead to discomfort at the very least.

A good chair is essential and it should have a lever or knob to adjust the height. The back should also be adjustable so that you are sitting in a comfortable and correct position. Posture is very important particularly if you are sitting at a desk for long periods of time. Your chair should also have arm rests, which again should be adjustable so that you can have them in the most comfortable position for you. If you can, go and sit in as many different sorts of chair as you can so that you can choose the one that is ideal for you.

Cupboards, bookcases, cabinets and other units should be finished to a high standard and everything should be balanced, level and look strong. Nothing should wobble or lean, it should be balanced enough to stand alone and withstand many years of use.

The pieces of furniture you choose should be robust and aesthetically pleasing. You will want your office to look professional but also comfortable so that it is inviting for staff and visitors alike. If you are choosing wooden furniture, make sure the wood comes from a sustainable source and that it is properly finished and well put together. It should have a fine silky feel to it, with no rough edges or uneven surfaces. By choosing good quality furniture, you will have an office that will last for many years, so take your time.
